The Society of Professional Journalists awarded the Voice of America on July 9 with a National Sigma Delta Chi Award for excellence in journalism. This honor recognizes outstanding work published or broadcast in 2023.
In the category of “All Platforms: Obituaries," VOA correspondent Kane Farabaugh won for his profile on former First Lady Rosalynn Carter titled “The First Lady I Knew.” For this story, Farabaugh depicted his relationship with the former First Lady, earning praise by the Sigma Delta Chi judges for its "unusually insightful, powerful and tender series and a fitting farewell to the first lady of American mental health."
