VOA Documentary Series Earns 2024 Online Journalism Award

On August 16, the Online News Association awarded Voice of America with an Online Journalism Award for its digital video storytelling in the Series/Large Newsroom category. VOA’s documentary series, “52 Documentary,” earned the award for 22 films released in 2023 that showcase women’s stories from around the world as they confront injustices every day.

“With '52 Documentary,' we aim to bring diverse perspectives, including women’s voices, to regions of the world where they may not reach,” said VOA Senior Executive Producer Euna Lee.

A jury of VOA’s peers in journalism reviewed and selected VOA’s work among more than 1,280 entries.

“Congratulations to Euna Lee, Lauren Kawana, Arturo Martinez and Daphne Matziaraki, as well as the many others responsible for each program within this series,” said VOA Director Mike Abramowitz. “News is at the heart of what we do, but it’s not all that we do, as documentaries are a fantastic tool for telling and sharing undertold stories with our global audience.”

The Online News Association is a not-for-profit organization for digital journalists focused on technology and innovation. Established in 2000, the Online Journalism Awards recognize excellence in digital journalism around the world.
