Voice of America earned top prizes at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards during its ceremonies on September 25 and September 26.
In the category of “Human Concerns and Social Issues,” VOA’s News Center won first place for its original documentary “Jamala: Songs of Freedom.” The documentary, released on February 24, follows Ukrainian singer-songwriter Jamala in the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and profiles her activism in support of her country.
Executive Producer and Director Beth Mendelson and Producer Amish Srivastava were both in attendance at the award ceremony to accept the Gold Dolphin trophy on behalf of the VOA team, which included Supervising Executive Producer Amy Katz, Editor Jacquelyn De Phillips and Writer Nathan Antilla.
In addition, Euna Lee and the 52 Documentary team won a finalist certificate for their work on VOA’s original film “The Last Man of Epucuén.”
Founded in 2010 by Filmservice International, the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards recognize the world’s best corporate films, online media productions and documentaries in France’s renowned epicenter for the visual arts. Out of nearly 800 submissions from 46 countries, the Cannes jury selected 154 productions to earn Dolphin trophies.
