MLK: A Global Vision for Justice

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is an American civil rights icon, but his influence traveled far from the shores of the U.S. From Australia to Germany to Niger, boulevards and streets bear his name, illustrating how he inspired others, especially in Africa.

Voice of America and American University teamed up to explore little-known facts about the conscious connection between Dr. King and African leaders as they pursued their independence from colonial rule.

This live, internationally-televised discussion was a special edition of VOA’s Straight Talk Africa television program simulcasted on radio and streamed live on the program’s Facebook page.

The show was hosted by Straight Talk Africa's own, Shaka Ssali, and featured a wide array of pannelists, including Reverend Aniedi Okure Executive Director of the Africa Faith and Justice Network, Dr. Sherri Williams, Assistant Professor at the American University School of Communication, Faustine Wabwire, Senior Foreign Assistance Policy Analyst for Bread for the World and Dr. Robert Vinson, Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies at the College of William and Mary.
