VOA Reporter Recognized as African Diaspora Influencer

VOA English to Africa reporter and program host Jackson Mvunganyi has been recognized by Shoppe Black magazine as one of the top young African Influencers in the Diaspora.

The magazine featured 20 individuals who have impacted and inspired their diaspora communities, while becoming successful in their careers.

A native of Rwanda, Mvunganyi is a media reporter for VOA’s English to Africa Service and host of the radio program, Up Front Africa. The program reaches millions of students and young professionals across the continent and beyond as Mvunganyi engages youth on issues on such as leadership, education and innovation.

“I feel this acknowledgement validates some of the important work that we do here at VOA and specifically in English to Africa,” said Mvunganyi. ”I absolutely enjoy engaging our audience in Africa and in the diaspora, as they speak to some of the issues in their communities. I feel honored to be included on the list, with some of the people that I admire.”

When he is not busy putting together the show, Mvunganyi spends his time working with various diaspora communities in the US. He is the co-founder and vice president of the Rwanda International Network Association, a nonprofit organization that engages and promotes the Rwandan diaspora in the United States. Mvunganyi also serves on the board of advisors for Indego Africa, a nonprofit that economically empowers and educates women in Rwanda.
